Last weekend my bestie and our girl gang went to Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights. It is our tradition. We rent a hotel or Airbnb and then go and spend the evening with monsters. It’s a great bonding trip and we have a blast. We always leave tired and ready to do it all over again the next year.
This year we stayed in an Airbnb, funny enough we stayed in the house that Boy Meets World used as the front of the house. It was a really nice place and we thought the host was very nice. We hopped in an uber and got there about 6:15pm. We got right through the line and inside pretty quickly. A long time ago we all decided that the Express ticket was the way to go. It’s the second tier and in my opinion the best value and gets you into all the rides and mazes. It’s worth the cost. I don’t know if for us the higher tiers would make sense. Every year as we do the last maze we are dead tired. I haven’t had a year yet that we wanted to go back to a maze (sans Krampus, still my all time favorite maze).
This year there were 7 mazes and the terror tram. Here are my opinions on the mazes. You don’t have to take my word and everyone feels a bit different about the mazes so just my thoughts.
Nothing blew my socks off this year. There was a decent mix of good mazes and we had some laughs, some scares and there was a lot of cool designs to look at. I think my favorite thing were the stilt characters. They were varied and really had a lot of time and thought put into them.
The Weeknd – After Hours – So I will admit I’m not a fan. I like his music when I hear it but I don’t search it out. I had not seen the music videos. I should watch them. I liked the aesthetic of the maze. I enjoy all the different versions of him through out the maze. I really liked some of the club scenes and the monsters in them. Overall it wasn’t really scary but it was fun to look at there was a lot going on and a lot of interesting nightmare characters. 7/10
Halloween – I don’t know I think this one needs to be retired. I love Michael Myers but this has been around forever. I’d like to see something new take its place. There are so many fun horror movies and ideas out there. One year off wouldn’t be the worse. 6/10
