So many people told me to pick up this film or catch it in theatres, we got busy and just never made it over to go see it in theatres so the minute I saw it was at Redbox I ran out and grabbed a copy to sit down and share with my other half.
It’s a wonderfully funny and gory film that constantly goes just to the brink of too much and then pulls itself back in. The film is about a family with a tradition where when someone marries into the family they must play a game. The game turns out to be a bloody mess and leaves the audience at times wincing for the main character.
The entire cast plays so well off each other. I loved everyone. I hated everyone. I felt for some of the characters. I cheered when someone of them died. It was a refreshingly fun new twist on an old game. The film was humorous and never strayed into the trying too hard territory that a lot of films fall into.
Samara Weaving is a badass. I love that throughout the film she gets stronger and you root for her. One of the things I really liked about this movie was the fact that all the characters seemed real and believable. It felt like the reactions were real and how someone would really respond in that situation rather then over exaggerated responses.
I would rate this as a 9/10. It’s definitely a must watch if you haven’t picked it up. It’s worth a screening. Now I am going to make sure my other halves family doesn’t have any weird family traditions I need to be worried about.
